Founder Marks Hiroshima Day With Hometown Missive

Wednesday, August 6, 2025 (Patrick Henry Village, Germany) – The Founder and Chairman of the Unity Party of America, from his perch in a German refugee camp, sends yet another request in the direction of the not-too-distant town of his birth, a request for duty to be done much in the manner of his father, who along with the rest of the US 8th Infantry Division, kept the peace through strength.

“First, in lieu of the usual airy and empty platitudes about peace tossed out whenever a Hiroshima anniversary rolls around, I’d like to make some Earth-shattering news,” says Chair Bill Hammons. “First, one word regarding the very real threats of a US-Russian war and more strikes on Iran (does anyone really doubt that the Donald will resort to nuking Fordow next time?): Unitism. Second, many more words: Gaza has hammered home to at least one refugee that no nation can target civilians and still consider itself part of civilization.

“Therefore one candidate for the Unity Party’s 2028 Presidential nomination will, assuming his fellow Kreuznachers let him out of this camp so that he can do his own duty, add to his platform a proposal for formal apologies for the deliberate targeting of civilians at Dresden and Hiroshima, while acknowledging that war shall remain an at-times necessary evil, at least until the Unity Party is given the opportunity to put its name and philosophy to work building a better world.

“And rest assured our next (inter)national convention will include a workshop hosted by Andrew Giusto, where he’ll explain how he’s getting all these former and future Uniters into Forward Friday chats. God bless the US and Forward UP.”
